Regardless of your religious affiliation, background or political leaning, it is undeniable that there has been many people more influential and more impactful on the world in which we live than the late great Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma focused campaign of passive resistence brought freedom to millions of people in India and it was all based around his famous quote, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." Notice Ghandi did not say, "You must wait for someone else, or for your local chamber to be the change you wish to see in the world." Notice he did not say, "Your local government must be the change that wish you see in the world." Gandhi was the kind of inspirational leader that is very much needed today and in any time period. Gandhi had the audacity, the delusional optimism and the pragmatic understanding of his current reality to formulate an action plan needed to make the changes he wanted to see in the world. On a much less deep level and on a much more superficial level, I sincerely believe that Kanbar Properties is a company that is choosing to become the change they wish to see in the world.

When Maurice Kanbar purchased 20 Tulsa office buildings and well over 30% of downtown's available prominent commercial real estate, he made a decision based on the belief that downtown could return to its previous "oil boom" glory. The Mayo Hotel is up and running. The Mayo Lofts are a reality. Things are happening. And things will continue to change for the better. In the coming 24 months look for more headline crowd-drawing venues and restaurants to move into the downtown retail space occupied by Kanbar. Look for the Kanbar downtown Tulsa commercial real estate to boom. The time to act is now and Kanbar is moving daily towards the achievement of the vision.
